Before your migration to Tableau Cloud, we recommend that you follow the steps in this topic to ensure best practices in both the migration itself and in using Tableau Cloud long term.
Use the Tableau Cloud Migration Technical Readiness Assessment Accelerator to determine if you’re a good fit for a Cloud migration.
Remove Stale Content (delete if older than N days w/o access) before migration.
Centralize on Published Data Sources.
Set Permissions at the Group and Project level and lock Project Permissions
Move local files to a Cloud-accessible location to avoid using Bridge resources for local files.
Extract all .csv/.excel files. Tableau Cloud doesn’t support live connections to local files. Bridge is required to connect to those local files.
Review and understand your environment using Admin Insights.
Review Tableau cloud storage limitations. Certain Tableau content types have storage capacity limitations on Tableau Cloud. For more information about these limitations, see Tableau Cloud Site Capacity.
Allocate enough free space for a successful migration. Encrypted extracts require three times their size on Tableau Server for encryption and decryption processes.
