Follow Metrics and Manage Followers in Tableau Pulse
You keep track of Tableau Pulse metrics by following them. Followers are specific to each metric, not to a metric definition. That way, you can follow the metrics that are scoped to your role and receive only relevant insights. Any time you filter a metric, you create a new metric if one doesn't already exist with that unique set of filters. Followers don’t carry over from the previous metric that you were viewing, so you need to follow the new metric. For information about creating metrics, see Create metrics.
Follow metrics
-
Open the metric that you want to track.
-
Select Follow. You can also select the More Actions menu (...) from a metric card and choose Follow.
You'll see this metric on your Tableau Pulse home page and in digests. For information about configuring your digests, see Manage your Tableau Pulse digest.
When you follow two or more metrics, Tableau Pulse provides an insight summary in digests and on the Tableau Pulse home page to help you quickly get the latest updates for your metrics. For these summaries to appear, your Tableau administrator must turn on the site setting for insight summaries. For more information, see Turn on metric insight summaries.
Unfollow metrics
-
Open the metric that you no longer want to follow.
-
Select Following. You can also select the More Actions menu (...) from a metric card and choose Unfollow.
When you unfollow a metric, it no longer appears on your Tableau Pulse home page or in digests. If you follow a metric as part of a user group, then you can’t unfollow the metric individually. The group must be removed from the follower list. For more information, see Remove followers.
Add followers
You can add other users or groups as followers to a metric.
-
Open the metric that you want to add followers to.
-
Select the Followers button.
-
In the search box, enter the name of the user or group that you want to add.
-
Select Add.
If you add users to a metric as part of a group, those users won’t be able to remove themselves individually. If you want users to have control over the metrics they follow, add them as individuals.
Remove followers
-
Open the metric that you want to remove followers from.
-
Select the Followers button.
-
Next to the follower's name, select Remove.
Followers aren't notified if they're removed from a metric, so be careful removing groups of followers. If users within a group are receiving more digests than they want from Tableau Pulse, they can turn off digests for a channel or decrease the digest frequency by adjusting their preferences. Users can also turn off alerts for individual metrics. For more information, see Manage your Tableau Pulse digest and Turn off alerts for a metric.
