Tableau Server WAII Service

The WAII service is installed beginning in Tableau Server 2026.3.0 and supports the Conversational Analytics for Business Users feature.

The WAII service is available if you have a Server+ license.

Important: This service requires a specific configuration of PostgreSQL (the repository) and cannot be installed or enabled if this is missing. For more information, see About Tableau Server and the pgvector extension in PostgreSQL.

Process

Tableau Server WAII Service (waiiservice)

Status Status of the Tableau Server WAII Service process is visible on the Status Page and from the TSM command line using the tsm status -v command. For more information, see View Server Process Status
Logging Logs generated by the Tableau Statistical Service process are located in /var/opt/tableau/tableau_server/data/tabsvc/logs/waiiservice. For more information, see Tableau Server Logs and Log File Locations

Impact if the WAII Service fails

If the WAII Service stops working, Tableau Agent in Dashboards will display errors and be unavailable.

Topology and Configuration

By default the WAII service is installed on the initial node, alongside the Hyper HBI Service service. We recommend you move these services to a different node (one that is not hosting the Tableau Administration Service), and that the two be co-located on the same node.

You are limited to a single instance of the WAII service. For more information on configuring the topology of a Tableau Server node, see Configure Nodes.

Performance and Scale Recommendations

The WAII service can be CPU and RAM intensive. We recommend you monitor Tableau Server and adjust your deployment as necessary by isolating the WAII and HyperHBI services on a separate node or adding server resources. A node with 64GB of RAM is recommended for a large cluster.
