ServiceNow
Applies to Desktop and server
This article describes how to connect Tableau to ServiceNow connector and set up the data source.
Note: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) isn't supported by this connector.
Before you begin, gather this connection information:
- ServiceNow instance you want to connect to: cloud-based or on premises
- User name and password with appropriate data access.
Connection installation
You can Install the connector from the Extension Gallery or by clicking install from within Tableau Desktop.
This connector requires a plugin (taco file) and a driver to talk to the instance. You might already have the required driver installed on your computer. If the driver is not installed on your computer, Tableau displays a message in the connection dialog box with a link to the Driver Download page where you can find driver links and installation instructions.
Start Tableau and under Connect, select ServiceNow. For a complete list of data connections, select More under To a Server. Then do the following:
-
Enter your ServiceNow instance, user name, and password.
- Select Sign In.
-
Select Connect.
If Tableau can't make the connection, verify that your credentials are correct. If you still can't connect, your computer is having trouble locating the server. Contact your network or ServiceNow administrator.
-
Enter your ServiceNow instance, user name, and password.
On the data source page, do the following:
(Optional) Select the default data source name at the top of the page, and then enter a unique data source name for use in Tableau. For example, use a data source naming convention that helps other users of the data source figure out which data source to connect to.
a. Under Table, select a table and drag it to the top of the canvas.
b. Select the sheet tab to start your analysis.
After you select the sheet tab, Tableau imports the data by creating an extract.Refresh your data
Tableau only supports extract connections for ServiceNow, not live connections. You can update the data by refreshing the extract; incremental refreshes are not supported. For more information, see Refresh Extracts. For information about refresh schedules see Schedule Extract Refreshes as You Publish a Workbook.
