Using the User Interface Uninstaller

You can have multiple Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder installations on your computer. If you want to remove older versions or you want to perform a clean installation with default settings, you can completely remove the products, including preferences, saved application state and sample files.

Windows

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. From the list of programs, right-click the Tableau product and select Uninstall/Change.
  3. From the Modify Setup menu, select Uninstall.
  4. Navigate to C:/Program Files/Tableau.
  5. Delete the Tableau <version> folder for the version of Tableau product that you uninstalled.

Mac

  1. From the Applications folder, delete the Tableau application.
  2. From your Documents folder, delete My Tableau Repository. Be sure to preserve any user-created files. As an alternative to deleting My Tableau Repository, you can renamed the folder. For example: My Tableau Repository Backup.
  3. From Preferences in the Library folder, delete all files whose names begin with com.tableau.
  4. From Saved Application State in the Library folder, delete all folders whose names begin with com.tableau.

Some folders are hidden on the Mac.

  • To show hidden folders, press Command+Shift+Dot.
  • To navigate to hidden folders:
    1. ​​In Finder, select Go > Go To Folder... (Command+Shift+G).
    2. In dialog box, type the folder name such as ~/Library/Preferences.

The ~ is a shortcut for the current user's Home directory, located at /Users/<username>. If Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep is used by multiple users on the affected computer, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each user.
