Upgrading computer operating systems
If you are upgrading the operating system of the Tableau Server computer, or nodes in a cluster, be sure to review and follow the best practices for upgrades. Major upgrades (for example: RHEL 7.x to RHEL 8.x) must be done using Blue/Green guidelines. For details, see Best Practices for Updating Your Tableau Server Computer and Using a Blue/Green approach for upgrading Tableau Server.

Blue/Green upgrades
Blue/green upgrades are a special type of upgrade approach that provide minimal downtime, but require a knowledgeable IT team and resources to implement. These are not appropriate for every organization, but they can be the right upgrade solution for those with the appropriate technical knowledge and staff. For more information, see Using a Blue/Green approach for upgrading Tableau Server.
