Step 2: Configure Data Cloud and Enable Tableau Next

As of October 14, 2025, Data Cloud has been rebranded to Data 360. During this transition, you may see references to Data Cloud in our application and documentation. While the name is new, the functionality and content remains unchanged.

Who does this step? Salesforce Admin or users with Tableau Next Admin permission sets.

About this step: Tableau Next uses Data Cloud to host and manage all of its data. After it's enabled and configured, both Data Cloud and Tableau Next need their permission sets given to users.

Note: This step only configures Data Cloud, it doesn't add any data. Data is necessary to use Tableau Next and is added later in this guide.

Enable Tableau Next in Salesforce Setup

Why: This step turns on Tableau Next, which is required before you can add Tableau Next permissions, features, and data.

How to do it
  1. In the Quick Find box in Setup, type in Tableau Next and then select Tableau Next Setup.

  2. Turn on Tableau Next.

If Tableau Next is already enabled, it’s possible that someone in your organization has already set up Marketing Performance for Marketing Cloud.

Enable Connectors in Data Cloud

Why: This step is required to upload CSVs in Tableau Next and connect to external data sources.

How to do it
  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, type in and select Data Cloud Setup Home.

  2. In the Feature Management section, select Feature Manager.

  3. Under Available Features, enable Connectors (Beta).

Assign Data Cloud and Tableau Next permission sets to users

Why: Users need both Data Cloud and Tableau Next permissions to access data in Tableau Next. The different Tableau Next permission sets map to a required Data Cloud permission set and control what users can do in Tableau Next and Data Cloud. In this step, you’ll assign users both Tableau Next and Data Cloud permission sets.

For information about the required licenses for these permission sets, see Tableau Next Permission Sets and Licenses(Link opens in a new window).

Tableau Next Permission Set Required Data Cloud Permission Set Tableau Next Permission Set Description

Tableau Next Limited Consumer Data Cloud User The user has read-only access to Tableau Next Intelligent Apps.
Tableau Next Included App Data Cloud User The user can view pre-packaged Tableau Next analytics.
How to do it

Before you assign permissions, make a list of users and use the table above to map out which Tableau Next permission set and corresponding Data Cloud permission set each user needs.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, type in and select Users.

  2. Select a user and click Permission Set Assignments.

  3. Click Edit Assignments.

  4. Select a Tableau Next permission set for that user: Tableau Next Admin, Tableau Next Platform Analyst, Tableau Next Self-Service Analyst, Tableau Next Consumer, Tableau Next Limited Consumer.

  5. Select Data Cloud Architect permission set and click Add.

  6. Select the Tableau Next Admin permission set and click Add.

  7. Save your work.

Repeat this step for each user on your list.

Add users by permission set

If you need to assign permissions to a large number of users, you can add multiple users to a permission set at once. To do this, you need to group users by the permission sets they need in Tableau Next and Data Cloud, then add those users to both the Tableau Next Platform Analyst and Data Cloud Architect permission sets.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, type Permission, and select Permission Sets.

  2. Select the appropriate Tableau Next Permission Set.

  3. Click Manage Assignments.

  4. Click Add Assignments.

  5. Select one or more users by checking the box next to their name.

  6. Click Assign.

  7. Perform these steps again for the same users, selecting the appropriate Data Cloud permission set.

You’re done!

Congratulations! Now you have Data Cloud and Tableau Next in your Salesforce org and users with Data Cloud and Tableau Next permissions. You'll add data to Data Cloud in a later step. Continue on to the next step to configure the features that make Tableau Next shine.
