Step 7: Build Out Tableau Next
Who does this step? Any user with Tableau Next Admin, Tableau Next Platform Analyst, or Tableau Next Self-Service Analyst permission set.
About this step: With setup complete and features enabled, you and your team are ready to analyze and take action on your data in Tableau Next.

Why: Everything in Tableau Next is created inside a workspace. A workspace is a flexible place for analysts to create and reuse analytic assets to answer questions about their data.
-
On the Tableau Next home page, click New Workspace.
-
Name the workspace.
-
Add a description for the workspace.

Connect Data to Workspaces
Why: Tableau Next relies on data from Data Cloud. This can either be accessing existing assets in Data Cloud, or uploading data (such as a CSV or Excel file) from Tableau Next into Data Cloud.
-
Add an existing data asset.
-
On the workspace tab, click Add and then select Existing Asset.
-
In the Select an Object to Add window, select the assets to upload.
-
To narrow your search, filter the assets by type or enter a name in the Search box.
-
Click Select.
-
-
Upload a file.

Create Semantic Models
Why: With semantic models, your data becomes unified into a single source of truth, accessible throughout Salesforce. Semantic models provide a way for your data to be interpreted consistently across Salesforce by mapping it to standardized business terms and logic.
-
From your workspace, click Add and select New Semantic Model.
-
Select the data model object that you want to build relationships on, and click Select.
-
To add another data object, under Data Objects, click the plus icon.
-
If you want to connect the data objects based on a common field, you can create a relationship. You can either do this manually, or you can let Einstein suggest relationships(Link opens in a new window) for you.
-
Click Show Suggestions and then review the suggestions and apply if needed. You can always turn suggestions on or off using the Suggested Relationships toggle.
-
Continue building your model by adding more data objects, calculated fields, parameters, and logical views. For more information, see Semantic Model Builder in Tableau Semantics(Link opens in a new window).
Note: If you want to use Concierge to explore metric details and dashboards with natural language, you need to Enable Analytics Agent Readiness on the semantic model that metric or dashboard is built from.

Define and Add Metrics
Why: A metric is a business KPI that you can track over time and use to assess performance or business processes. A metric is derived from one or more measures. You can apply a sentiment to a metric (for example, up is good or bad), aggregation (for example, sum, non-cumulative, average, minimum, maximum), and other business contexts.
-
From your workspace, open the model that you want to use for defining a metric.
-
To create a new metric, from the New dropdown, select Metrics.
-
Define the metric. For more information, see Create a Metric for a Semantic Model(Link opens in a new window).
