Private Connect for Palantir

This topic covers setup information specific to the data provider. General information on setting up a private connection is in Private Connection Set Up: Overview, and information on setting up the Tableau Cloud endpoint is in Private Connection Set Up: Tableau Cloud.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to a Palantir representative for Palantir configuration tasks.
  • You have a custom domain with Palantir. For more information, contact your Palantir representative about getting a custom domain, and see Palantir's documentation: Configure domains and certificates(Link opens in a new window).
  • Custom domain routing is configured in Tableau Cloud. To initiate custom domain routing, provide the custom domain from the previous prerequisite to your Tableau Customer Success Manager. Tableau-side setup depends on the product release schedule, and takes from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the amount of time to the next release.

Tableau Cloud Information for the Data Provider

Your Palantir representative handles private connection setup on Palantir's side. You need to know the IAM ARN and the Tableau AWS account number that Palantir should add to the allow list. You also need the custom domain that you established in the prerequisites.

IAM ARN

To get the IAM ARN:

  1. Log in to Tableau Cloud Manager (TCM).
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select the Private Connect tab.
  4. Expand IAM Regions and ARNs.
  5. Find the region for your Tableau Cloud site.
  6. In the Actions menu (...), select Copy IAM ARN.

Account number

Palantir needs to allow a specific AWS account number to connect. (It's not the account number in the IAM ARN.) Contact your Tableau Customer Success Manager to get this account number.

Data Provider Information for Tableau Cloud

After setup is complete on Palantir's side, your Palantir representative will provide you with the endpoint address. Use the endpoint address as the Endpoint Service Name in the Tableau Cloud Create Private Connection dialog. For more information, see Private Connection Set Up: Tableau Cloud.
