Tableau Deployment Guide

This topic describes how to find and download the installers for Tableau Desktop, Tableau Desktop Public Edition, Tableau Prep Builder, and Tableau Reader.

Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder installers

You can find the Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder installers on the Product Downloads(Link opens in a new window) page, and if you are a Tableau Customer, on the Customer Portal(Link opens in a new window) page.

Important  Tableau products are not always released at the same time. When installing a new version Tableau Desktop, make sure it's compatible with Tableau Server. For example, a new release of Tableau Desktop might be available, but a compatible version of Tableau Server might not be available for several months. See Finding and Resolving Compatibility Issues.

Product Downloads

The Product Downloads page doesn't require an account to access the installers. You can also find all available versions. After you download and install the product, you will need to activate the product.

1. Go to the Product Downloads(Link opens in a new window) page and select Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder from the list on the left side of the page.

2. Click on the version you want to install.

   

3. In the Download Files section of the page, click on the installer for your operating system to download it.

   

Tableau Customer Portal

The Tableau Customer Portal is managed by your internal Tableau Portal Administrator or by someone in your IT department. For more information, see Getting Started with the Customer Portal.

1. As a Customer Portal user, go to the Customer Portal.(Link opens in a new window)
2. Under Quick Links, click Product Downloads.
3. Click the appropriate link to download the installer for your product and operating system.

Tableau Desktop Public Edition installer

Tableau Public is a platform where you can explore and share data visualizations online. Tableau Desktop Public Edition is a free data visualization tool that you can use to published Tableau Public. You can also post to Tableau Public from Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, or Tableau Cloud.

To get the Tableau Desktop Public Edition installer:

1. Go to Tableau Public.
2. Click DOWNLOAD THE APP.
3. Fill out the registration form, then click DOWNLOAD THE APP on the form.

To access the Tableau Public environment, you will need to create a profile. You can post to Tableau Public from Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, or Tableau Cloud.

Tableau Reader installer

Tableau Reader is a free desktop application that you can use to open and interact with data visualizations built in Tableau Desktop. As an alternative, you can use the Tableau Viewer role. For more information, see Tableau Viewer vs. Tableau Reader.

To get the Tableau Reader installer:

1. Go to Tableau Reader.
2. Click DOWNLOAD THE APP.
   The download begins automatically.
